Using Perennial Flowers, Such As The Useful Achillea, in Landscaping

A incredible number of people now totally understand that a beautifully well kept garden can add an incredibly large amount of extra cash value to their house. Not only that, a wisely designed backyard can seriously add to the amount of useful space for yourself and your family. For these factors, and some others besides, gardening has, over time, increased to become an incredibly popular pastime. Top of the agenda for most gardeners is a wonderful yearly display of colorful and varied blooms.

While many landscape gardeners opt to create color by using annuals, others conclude that using  perennials is the best method.  Annual flowers are those plants which {grow, flower and die|germinate, develop, bloom and die} in only the single year whereas perennials will continue to bloom year upon year. Of course there are plus points and minus points for both annual flowers and perennial plants and garden landscaping is all about deciding which is the best mix of the two.

Many people have heart warming memories of distant days spent in a grandfather’s garden enjoying the gorgeous fragrances of many old fashioned popular perennial flowers. Sadly it can be rather problematic for even the most avid gardener (including some experienced professionals) to replicate old fashioned gardens because many of the varieties (of species) are no longer available. You will be happy to hear that many of the old fashioned cultivars have been superseded by strains which are more able to withstand disease, so you can often discover suitable replacements which show hardly any (other) difference to the old fashioned plant.

Traditional Perennial Plants

One of the most popular perennial flowers used in garden landscaping today is the Achillea which was first used in American gardens during colonial days when it was introduced from Europe. Achillea is a very old fashioned plant used since the days of the Greek hero Achilles (from whom the plant gets it’s name) who used it to treat his soldiers. Achillea can stop bleeding and works amazingly well at healing wounds.

Achillea

Achillea has beautiful flattish clusters of small blooms that are rather daisy like. Achillea  come with flower heads in a variety of colors ranging from different shades of pinks, yellows and whites. Achillea millefolium are thought by most gardeners to be relatively easy perennial plants to grow. They are so easy to propagate because they are considerably invasive plants which can be seen growing on the poorest of soil. If you want to see success with Achillea ptarmica the only thing is to avoid cultivating in extremely wet or poorly drained soil. The plants are fantastic at withstanding drought conditions. Achillea ptarmica and Achillea millefolium are two of the more popular varieties but there are various others available.
