The coca plant is one of the most prejudiced plants currently being produced and used. Most commonly associated with being the species which cocaine is created from, it has the stereotype of being a dangerous plant. However, the coca plant has many valid and safe uses, which have been used by herbalists since the discovery of the plants. That’s why it’s also beneficial for you to have these plants in making your herb garden.

The coca plant thrives in South America, Africa, Ceylon, Taiwan, Indonesia and Formosa. However, it is most commonly identified for its existence in the Andes of South America, where the greatest volume of cocaine is being made. The first known written source of the species was in 1783, but it was not classified until 1786, where it was given the name Erythroxylum coca. However, it is believed that the coca plant has been tended as a domestic plant for over two thousand years. There is proof within burial grounds of coca to support this theory.

Caring for the coca plant needs diligence and effort. The life of the coca plant starts as a fruit, which is gathered when the drupes are almost ripe. These drupes are set within a container and left to sit where the skin of the fruit becomes squishy. Once this has happened, the seeds are taken and the seeds are placed in the sunlight in order for them to dry out.

Only once this occurs, the seeds can be sown. It takes 24 days for the coca plant to germinate. Once the plant has grown 4 leaves, they are protected by a lattice covering for a year.

After the year has ended, the plants are transferred to preparation fields. This transportation can only be done during the rainy days. Three years after this transfer, some leaves may be harvested. Once the coca plant is able to be processed, they are harvested three or four times a year. A fully established acre of coca plants can yield 1,500 to 2,000 pounds of product per year.

While coca plants are annual, a field will be replanted once every twenty years, as the quality of the plant fades over time.

The most common use of coca plants is in the popular soft drink, Coca-Cola. While this soda no longer contains cocaine, it is still created directly from the coca leaf.

In starting your herb garden, as coca plants are so pricey, there are many steps taken to protect the crops from natural predators and disease. There are several varieties of insects that eat on the coca plants, as well as fungus that can harm or kill the stalks, branches and leaves. Weeds can also be devastating to young coca plants, as the weeds rid the soil of the nutrients that the plants need for basic life. In making your own herb garden, it’s good to know that there are also some medicinal benefits with the coca plant. Modern medicinal uses of coca include use as a bactericide, as spinal anesthetics and as treatments for ailments such as eczema and shingles.

An organic vegetable garden sounds ecological, rewarding, healthy but challenging. The process extends over several seasons, but when you finally get results you’ll be able to enjoy homegrown veggies that are not only tasty but very healthy too. From a technological point of view, organic gardening is a return to traditions and to the old agricultural practices present in any culture worldwide. Click over here for more information about how to plant a vegetable garden .

The size of the organic vegetable garden is not important: it can even range from a few feet on the house roof or balcony to several acres. The first difficulty one may encounter in the attempt to start the cultivation of the plants is the crisis of organic seeds. The problem is that in order to have a real organic vegetable garden, you have to begin with seeds that are completely free of chemicals or irradiation residues. Therefore, if you can’t find organic seeds in your neighborhood, try on the Internet.

The benefits of an organic vegetable garden are manifold. First of all when there are no pesticides or herbicides used in the plant cultivation, the crops will not suffer because of the chemicals, the soil keeps its properties for several years and the specific fauna will contribute to the regeneration of the garden. Furthermore, the organic vegetable garden has the advantage of covering the family needs in a very safe, cheap and easy way. In caseyou run a farm in parallel with an organic vegetable garden things get even more profitable. You will get additional worthwhile information about starting a vegetable garden here.

For instance, the profitability and the quality of the crops can be increased by using the manure as a fertilizer. All one needs for an organic vegetable garden should be available locally; there are no high costs and the necessary items come for very decent prices. Don’t ignore the tips available in gardening books because lots of the tradition is lost and we need to revive it. Just a relevant example here: it’s practical to grow beans and corn together; you won’t need any sticks for the beans because they will climb on the corn stalks.

The organic compost, the seeds and the soil will all play an important role in the development of the organic vegetable garden. Do not neglect any of these aspects and your home enterprise will be a success and a reward for all the work involved in the process. You can find oodles of supplemental worthwhile info about tomato gardening here.

Chamomile tea is fabulous for calming those frazzled nerves. The soothing begins as soon as you drink the delicate taste, and the chemical compounds within the tea will have you feeling calmer by the end of your first cup.

When you are ready to pick-up your chamomile, you can find 2 main kinds. These two kinds share similar functions, but because the appearance is different you should find it not a problem to choose the right kind for your needs.

You can try German chamomile for several different things ranging from teas to lotions. Its woody, apple smell is light and fresh and its scent and daisy-like appearance will cheer up up any area.

German chamomile is self-seeding, which is good because it is an annual and this will save you some trouble with planting it again and again. You can even collect the seeds to use elsewhere in your garden or give some to a friend.

It will do better in full or direct sun and dry conditions. It can grow straight up, unlike Roman chamomile, and your German chamomile herb should grow to a height of nearly three feet.

The best way to raise German chamomile is to either plant the seeds in a container inside or to sprinkle them on the ground. Regardless of whether you plant the seeds inside or outdoors, you don’t need to bury them because they are so tiny. The sod should be kept moist (not wet) and if you potted your German chamomile make sure you don’t transplant the seedlings until they are at least 4 inches tall. If you’re growing it outdoors, every 4 weeks throughout the growing season sow more seeds so that your harvest can be even greater. The more German chamomile you grow, the better because this herb has a low floral yield.

I read about that one brilliant variety of German chamomile is double-flowered, which I would love to see.

Roman chamomile, which is frequently called “true chamomile” or “English chamomile” is also nice in teas to ease nervous tension. English chamomile has the same woody, apple-like smell of the German chamomile, but it is special in that it’s a creeper or ground cover rather than a bushy herb.

This plant will only grow to about 10 inches high as it creeps along the ground. In the summer, the Roman chamomile will get a little taller and sprout little white flowers with yellow centers that are similar to the German chamomile, but more pungent.

If you’d like your hair to be lighter or softer, you can use the natural oil from the Roman chamomile plant. A few types are even used to flavor sherry.

This herb is not actually best if started from seeds, so I recommend you get it or start with a division from someone else’s Roman chamomile.

Fortunately Roman chamomile is drought resistant and able to grow for long periods of time without water, for those of you who forget this necessary task.

Believe it or not, even though these two plants look alike, taste alike and have the same name, according to the scientists, they are not related at all.

Good luck with your herb gardening. Be sure to let me know how your herb garden grows.

After you choose to develop your own herb garden, the next step is choosing the assortment of herbs you want. There are so many different herbs and many of these herb plants have many kinds—for example, there are hundreds of types of thyme to choose from.

The life cycles or growing periods vary with different herb plants. In order to make good decisions, it is important to know the growing period of your herb plants. Before you purchase your herbs, you’ll want to be aware of their growing season, or life cycle. There are 3 main kinds:

Annuals: This kind of flower starts with a seed. During one life cycle they will grow, flower and die. Some nice annual herb plants are dill, cilantro, mustard, chervil, basil and borage.

Biennials: Biennial flowers grow for two years and usually bear a “fruit” in the second year (like caraway). Herbs (like parsley) produce foliage in both years, but go to seed early in the second growing season. Some biennials you should use are angelica, Queen Anne’s lace and chicory.

Perennials: Plants that tend to survive for more than 2 growing seasons are called perennials. The climate where these herbs grow determines how many years they will come back, or if they will come back at all. Of the many perennials available, some you may like are lemon verbena, rosemary, scented geranium, mints, thyme, yarrow and lady’s mantle.

I like growing herb plants with different growing seasons, but perennials are doubly rewarding because I don’t have to buy them again and replant them every year. Be careful of how much cold weather your perennials are exposed to because too much can harm them. Bringing your perennials in during winter is a nice way to lengthen their growing cycle.

There are several other things you can do to lengthen the life of your herb plants:

A few perennials can need for you to trim them back, dig up the bulb, roots or rhizome, and keep in your garage, basement or cellar over the winter.

Using containers is a fantastic method for those herbs that you need to over-winter inside your house or garage. A few folks even put their containers in the ground, covering them up to the rim. They simply take out the whole pot at the end of the season and store them during the colder time of year.

Grow your biennials in middle of the summer so that you can get lots of flowers in the second season.

Some herbs are self-sowers, which means that they can sow their own seeds for the next growing season. Mustard, borage and catnip are just a few of the herbs that are self-sowers.

Cut off faded flowers to lengthen the growing cycle of short-lived annuals. Depending on your area’s climate; your annuals may self-seed if you cut the plant back near the end of the summer.

If you have some unexpected cold weather don’t forget to cover your plants with a blanket, towel or sheet which will prevent the frost from killing your herb. Herbs that are in containers can be moved under a covered porch for protection.

My wish for you is that these pointers can come in handy when you start your own herb garden planning. Getting it just as you imagine it can be a struggle. Even I make flubs after all these years, but just keep in mind that you can take out what doesn’t work and try try again!

Finding an outdoor furniture is much trouble-free than settle on what material to pick. There are number of types that are good and high quality. Chic outdoor furniture is in all places. But, it will still depend on what we like, whether it is made of plastic, wood or aluminum. Still, we should remember in selecting patio furniture we should always check the quality of materials.

I listed here the common patio furniture materials:

Plastic Patio Furniture
Among the patio furniture, plastic patio furniture is the cheapest. It also may look great for a long time. Plastic patio furniture is not hard to find. Plastic patio furniture is so convenient to use because it’s stackable. Mostly, these are made reassembled. Maintaining plastic patio furniture is easier. Wiping down the dirt off the plastic patio should always be done but remember when the temperature change plastic patio furniture may weaken.

Wood Patio Furniture
Wood is one of the most popular furniture material. This material is tested to last for a long run. However, wood materials during winter season are prone to weaken. Wood tends to have chip and cracks during this season. Just remember, wood patio furniture’s maintenance should be done before it will be used. Applying water resistant coat solution is the best way to keep wood patio furniture look good. Wood patio furniture may be expensive but we won’t worry in buying another set because it is sturdy.

Metal Patio Furniture
Among the furniture materials, this is the most economical. It requires low maintenance. It is cheaper than wood materials. In the long run, it has proved to last evenly. It’s materials are rigid so it can have room for people of any sizes. Though metal materials are tough we should remember weather temperature can damage any patio furniture.

Now we know the advantages and disadvantages of patio furniture materials. Whether it is made up of plastic, wood or metal materials, in the end it’s ideal to check our patio furniture. We have to make sure they are sturdy enough to support everyone and their needs.

I collect cookbooks and love to experiment with interesting dishes from other culture like a Mexican mole. Do you enjoy cooking delicious international dinners? Like me, you cultivate a lot of the ingredients if you begin your own themed kitchen herb garden.

You can cultivate the major herbs in your own garden and have the freshest ingredients to add to your recipes, or experiment on your own.

You do not need a special location for your themed kitchen herb garden. You can cultivate them in pots or in your usual garden bed.

Look no further than these suggestions for your own themed kitchen herb garden:

Asian: From Thai and Vietnamese to Indian and Chinese, Asian cuisine has a lot of tastes and spices to choose from. Some fabulous herb plants to plant in your Asian-themed garden are lemongrass, cayenne pepper, cardamom and anise. Try the licorice flavor of anise in your next Indian meal, or use its warm sweetness in your baked goods. You can also try it in tea as well as in baking a savory-sweet cookie. The growing popularity of Asian cuisine has helped it fall back into favor in the US in the last few years.

Mexican: Not a week goes by when I don’t chow down on a Mexican meal. Some spicy beans and rice or nachos can fast hit the location. Can you even make an authentic Mexican meal without Cayenne pepper, Cilantro and Garlic?

Italian: What’s your favorite Italian dish? My favorite is lasagna, of course. The best I ever had was my mom’s which included all these great herb plants: basil, fennel, parsley, garlic, marjoram, oregano, rosemary and thyme. The oniony taste of garlic makes it a perfect addition to most Italian dinners. You can add garlic to your mashed potatoes and even roast it with some olive oil to eat it by itself. Don’t overcook your garlic because it loses its flavor the longer it cooks.

Middle East: Foods from the Middle East and north Africa are only growing in popularity lately. The flavors are so varied and the ingredients are so out of the norm for most of what I usually have in my recipes, including chick peas, figs and couscous. Try these herb plants to spice up your Middle Eastern meals: cardamom, garlic, parsley, rosemary and saffron.

German: You can have your own Oktoberfest any time you like if you’ve got all the right German herbs. For authentic German meals, experiment with these herb plants: chives, dill, horseradish, sage and thyme. As a relative of mustard, horseradish is a condiment herb that you can use for extra taste. It can also clear up your sinuses! Use horseradish to add some extra twang to beef, fish, cream cheese spreads, potato salad, mayonnaise and meat loaf.

One of the fantastic things about herb gardening it that herb plants are a gift that keeps on giving. If you remove a few leaves from your sage plant, it can grow back. Most herb plants benefit from being cut back from time to time and will likely grow bigger and fuller as a result.

Good luck with your herb gardening. Be sure to let me know how your herb garden grows.

It is known that all God’s creatures are vital for the earth. The smallest creatures that are not even visible to the eye are part of the way earth survives. The earthworm is one of the most important creatures for the earth’s healthy balance of soil.

“The intestines of the earth” are earthworms according Aristotle and Charles Darwin mentions that earthworms have basically had a taste of everything that has ever existed on this earth, from everything natural and unnatural. Earthworms are actually worshipped in some cultures. Earthworms should therefore be cherished as they are part of the ground we live on.

Earthworms‘ mains functions are too make pathways through soil to let in air, water and plant roots, this in turn enriches the soil for plants to survive. Another function would be that they distribute castings (earthworm poop) through the soil. Their castings are filled with compounds that improve plants’ resistance to disease. It is noticeable that gardens that have more earthworms are healthier than gardens that fewer earthworms. They can also clear the earth from contaminants restoring the soil its natural balance. Not only are they vital for the earth some cultures eat worms as a source of protein.

Composting is one of the key ingredients of having a healthy garden. Composting is in fact a great natural habitat for earthworms. When planting something new in your garden you should spread a nice think layer of compost on the top. If you mix the compost with earthworms and some other worms you will find that this speeds up the process of growth and restoration. This is called vermicomposting.

For vermicomposting at home you need a few things. You need to get bins, this can be anything from wood, plastic, and metal containers. The size of the bin depends on how you plan on storing your worms and how you will feed them. Although you may use any bin, there are less favorable ones, like metal will conduct too much heat throughout the bin and also it might rust by sending heavy metals through the compost making it poisonous for the worms.

Vermicompost gives seedlings a really good start in life and earthworms are part of this wonderful process of maintaining a beautiful garden. Making the earth greener starts with you and you don’t have to have millions to make a difference. Earthworms are your key making a difference.

Herbs are commonly used in many of the medicines you have in your medicine cabinet. Just think how much money you could save by growing your own healing herb plants. I know I have saved countless dollars by growing my own little first aid kit at home.

Do you have any of these ailments? Try herbs!

Coriander, chervil and thyme all work fabulous for aching joints. Lavender, marjoram, lovage, peppermint and oregano can be used as an antibacterial.

Got bad breath? Parsley, mint, anise and sweet cicely will help everyone breathe easier.

Constipation is serious. Both dandelion and fennel will help in getting things going again.

It is amazing how many herbs can assist with flatulence, including peppermint, summer savory, lemon balm, ginger, caraway, coriander, beebalm and lovage.

There’s not much more soothing to your frazzled nerves than a nice cup of chamomile tea at the end of the day. Some other herb plants that might help include dill, goldenrod, lavender and lemon balm.

There is no better cure for a hangover than thyme. It works better than the raw egg/tomato juice drink some people might tell you to drink.

Do you have a terrible case of hiccups that won’t go away? Dill will take care of them. It will be fabulous, and if you like dill, it can be a tasty cure.

To treat your insect stings, including mosquito bites, use aloe, goldenrod, hens-and-chicks and summer savory.

Tossing and turning all night? A lot of the same herb plants that can calm your nerves will assist here too, but chamomile and dill are most likely to help you with your insomnia.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies or nasal congestion, sage, horseradish and violet are nice choices. To clean out your sinus passages fast, use a little horseradish.

Indigestion and stomachache do well with dill, fennel, lovage and of course peppermint.

Among all these remedies you might think that herbs are the next snake oil. Don’t believe me? Experiment with it for yourself!

Aloe Vera: I torture both of my poor aloe herbs by breaking off bits every couple of days to take care of bug bites and burns, even sunburns As a succulent, aloe vera doesn’t require very much in the way of creature comforts and I have to be mindful not to over-water it myself. Just be sure that it gets plenty of light and that its well-drained sod keeps it firmly rooted in the container or garden bed.

Chamomile: As one of the more familiar medicinal herb plants, chamomile is good for both mental and physical maladies.. Chamomile [has|comes in] [2|two] [varieties|types|kinds] (German and true or Roman chamomile), both of these plants will self-sow if you allow them, which will decrease the amount of time you will have to spend replanting these perennial herb plants.

Horseradish: Just a sniff of this herb will clear you out, and fast. As a member of the mustard family, horseradish has a peppery taste that doesn’t attract horses at all. Although the leaves can grow to 2 feet long, it is the root that is key for the herb gardener.

Good luck with your herb gardening. Be sure to let me know how your herb garden grows.

If you’re thinking about buying a juniper bonsai tree, there are usually quite a few questions which may possibly come to mind. This article should help to answer your questions on juniper bonsai trees.

Will the Juniper bonsai prosper inside?
Juniper bonsai trees are open-air kinds of bonsai and cannot thrive inside. Ideally, you must place your Juniper bonsai in a spot where it will obtain morning sun and afternoon shade. Water the Juniper plant everyday and be vigilant not to let it dry out. Several plant shows include Juniper bonsais inside, providing the misleading notion that this is an indoor tree, which it is not.

When must I wire the Juniper bonsai tree?
Juniper bonsai trees respond quite nicely to being wired in the fall or the start of the winter season. Branches that were newly wired will expand from the path of the wire during the months of winter. You must move the pot the Juniper bonsai when spring arrives. This type of care will be required by younger Juniper bonsai plants annually. Older Juniper bonsais must have this process done each and every 3 years.

What are the different kinds of Juniper bonsai trees?
Juniper bonsai trees come in various kinds. These include Green Mounds, Shimpaku, Chinese Junipers, Japanese Garden Junipers and Sargent’s Needle.

What is a Juniper bonsai tree?
A Juniper bonsai tree is also known as a Juniper Procumbens tree. A Juniper bonsai tree is really a classic for bonsai hobbyists. A Juniper tree has a beautiful shape and lush green foliage. You’ll be able to manipulate the shape the branches expand in through wiring. This is really a wonderful bonsai tree for beginner bonsai tree makers, since Junipers are fairly simple bonsai trees to grow with proper care as well as maintenance.

I still have questions. Where can I locate any other information on juniper bonsai trees?
Web discussion groups on juniper bonsai trees are rare. One forum that I do suggest for juniper bonsai tree “frequently asked questions”, though, is http://juniper-bonsai-tree.bidandblog.com . It’s a free of charge website where members provide a ton of answers about juniper bonsai trees. And the site has realtime juniper bonsai tree auctions and a free of charge juniper bonsai tree email alert service. And, Bid and blog’s forum also has some other search tools that make finding juniper bonsai trees painfully simple.

Mushroom compost is very popular product and used by many gardeners and landscapers, the product you buy from the shops is a product which is produced after a growing process. After reading this article you should have enough info to hopefully make your own mushroom compost and miss out the middle man.

The ingredients you need to start to make mushroom compost is manure, hay, poultry manure, gypsum and mushroom spawn as well as a large compost bin and steam machine. Once you have all these you are ready to make mushroom compost.

1. You need to begin by mixing the gypsum and manure.

2. You now need to get your compost bin and line the bottom with the just mixed manure and gypsum and leave it for 2 or weeks. After this has happened the bin needs to be covered to allow it to become hot and all the organic matter also decompose.

3. You need to use your steam machine indoors to allow the compost to pasteurize. For the best uses make sure the room has ventilation to allow the steam to blow till the room gets heated to approximately of 1600.

4. After it is pasteurized it should be placed on trays and the mushroom spawn added and mixed.

5. Then added peat moss to the tray and this needs to be kept inside and the humidity and the temperature of the room controlled. The growth of mushroom then can be expected within 30 days.

A quality mushroom can be grown with the help of horse manure. This can be bought from shops or for fresh manure add 20% of wet straw and leave it outside. After a few hours the heaps will become hot in the centre. This process needs to be repeated and also kept moist. When it becomes rotten the centre will cool and no longer be hot.
